Mo’ Better Links
First things first: if you have recommendations for CSS and/or PHP tutorials, guidebooks, etc, please let me know. I’m playing with fire carefully, but it would be nice to know a little more.
Anyway, since the most common prompt I get to blog is because folks say they’re interested in what I read, on to more of the best of the reader:
“Never ask if someone wants another cocktail.” I want B and Scrilla to co-author a server’s blog or book. B can provide beautiful prose such as this and Scrilla can tell me more stories about Steven Jackson and Gavin Newsom.
Star Wars Kid: the Data Dump. I’ve been thinking a ton lately about internet presence and how to manage it; between dealing with certain folks who seem to have nothing better to do than hate other people, yesterday’s Twitter debacle (beginning, sorta resolution, up to you to find the in-between), Emily Gould’s NY Times piece on her experiences with Gawker, and having to make choices about what I can post in general. Star Wars Kid might have been one of the first people to deal with this in a massive way, and Andy (and others I am connected with) played a big part in that. Andy handled it responsibly and the post is more about how information spreads, though, and also interesting.
Apartment Therapy’s The Kitchn: not so much for any individual post but because lately, I’ve had lots of secret ambition to be way more involved in my food, from acquisition to preparation to consumption, but I am way overwhelmed by the whole idea. Kathryn et al have great posts with good pictures and inspiring content.
Photography by Vincent Laforet: Some of them quite stunning, good desktop material. [via]
Get Rich Slowly. I recommend this site to a lot of people, and as I’ve been thinking about money more often than not of late have been following pretty closely again. I’m apparently getting my stimulus check today, and because I hate America I’ll be using it to pay off debt, rather than buy 75 gallons of gas like I should be.
Free the Net: Bernal Heights edition. Considering it. Wasn’t the whole city supposed to have free WiFi by now?
And finally, Weezer’s Pork and Beans: Internet hilarity, from concentrate.
Enjoy the long weekend.

You should ask Ralph for CSS and PHP resources, I’m sure he has a ton of suggestions.
